10 Last Minute Gifts For The Lady Nerd In Your Life

5. Sword

For those girls who lean towards the comic book end of the geeky spectrum, the Luna Brothers' Sword series is one I highly recommend and not JUST because it features a female protagonist who wields a mystical weapon. Okay, maybe just because of that. From the website: "The Sword is a modern-day fantasy series that follows Dara Brighton, a young woman whose life is destroyed by three powerful strangers. Her journey begins when she discovers a unique sword."

4. Build her a Crow T Robot!

God. If someone ever took the time to build me a MST3K Crow T. Robot from scratch I would probably give them the oral pleasuring of their choice. I said PROBABLY. Calm down, internet. No, I will not give you my address, and no, I will not dress up as a pre-pan Jan in the Pan and take a Polaroid for you. You people freak me out.

3. Guild Tee featuring the funniest thing Vork has ever said.

I realize this tee shirt is sized for a man, but in my experience, a lady geek has never, ever shunned the infinite coziness of a roomy tee emblazoned with the genius of one their favorite characters. Plus, she can wear it while gaming and have a nice bit of leftover material to act as a bed for her cat. I speak from experience here, okay?

 2. Illustrations from Comic book artist Joelle Jones.

Jones' art work for Dr. Horrible (Dark Horse), 12 Reasons Why I Love Her (Oni Press), and Portland Noir exemplify everything that is right about modern comics. I don't need 12 reasons to love Joelle Jones. I only need one of her drawings.

1. Mordant's Need by Stephen R. Donaldson

In my opinion, one of the best fantasy novels ever written that just happens to be about a female character (Teresa Morgan). While everyone raves about Stephen R. Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, this two-part epic blows that series out of the water with a prophesied hero gender reversal and strong undercurrent of feminism. I will never understand how this book was written by the same dude whose most popular character (Thomas) is a leper who rapes a woman in the first 50 pages of the series. So confusing.
