Ads gone bad: at least the curtains aren't actually made of meat

Today on Jezebel, Katy notes that this commercial "weirdly brings to mind" a certain euphemism for labia. I think "pretty blatantly and obviously brings to mind, for a very good reason" might be a better way of putting it. Oh well, at least it's not actual meat:
Oh, sure. It doesn't take long. You just have to get health insurance, book that gyno appointment months in advance, take time off work ... or cross your fingers that there's a Planned Parenthood nearby. Easy-peasy. Pap tests are important: but they could stand to be easier and more affordable for everyone.
I think it would have added a little bit of nice realism for the cervix to twitch just a bit when the swab enters or, to mimic my particular lady doc's office, to have a photo of a semi-nude guy reclining on a bale of hay above the doctor's head for patients to stare at. Creepy!

"Pap tests are important: but they could stand to be easier and more affordable for everyone" Amen. It would be nice to see a cutesy commercial about THAT!
I don't find the the video offensive, really, maybe the writers didn't realize they were going to bring to mind the particular euphemism. It gets your attention, which I think was the point, especially if you had never had a pap before, it makes an attempt to put you at ease.
And I totally mis-read that last paragraph as something to do with Christian Bale semi-nude....
Posted 06/17/2009 at 01:51:12 PM@BorgQueen: I read that as something about Christian Bale, too, at first!
I had to stop for a second and get my bearings. Mmm, Christian Bale.
