By Andrea GrimesJust in time for St. Patty's day, Bill Richardson has announced that
lady-targeted anti-drunk driving ads are going to be coming to a New Mexico near you. Apparently New Mexico has a serious drunk driving problem, and you're not exempt just because of your girlparts. Drag, right? Okay, that was insensitive. Seriously, according to Albuquerque's KOAT, more women than ever are being arrested for DWI offenses:
State officials said almost 25 percent of those arrested for DWI are women. The new state campaign, called "Women Drive Drunk, Too" is aimed to help change that. You will start seeing commercials on television soon. They show a woman out drinking and partying, then getting arrested, and her family without her.
I'm never totally sure how anti-drunk driving campaigns are supposed to work. Anyone remember getting their pants scared clean off during the "
Every 15 Minutes" thing they always used to do around prom time in high school? In light of its almost gleeful gore, "Women Drive Drunk, Too" seems pretty tame. But short of standing outside every bar in America confiscating keys, there doesn't seem like there's too much to be done about the problem. Everyone believes they're the drunken exception. Alas. At least Gov. Bill isn't
blaming feminism.
