Five Normund Gentle lady torch song covers we'd love to see on American Idol

Last night, right after Nick Mitchell belted the Dreamgirls show-stopper "And I Am Telling You" on American Idol, I was beside myself with glee, hoping that the rest of the country felt similarly. Holding on to the possibility that Mitchell's disco-shirt loving alter-ego Normund Gentle somehow makes it to season eight's Top Twelve, here are five contemporary lady torch songs that this dark-horse contestant could sing that would, to paraphrase Randy, blow us all of the box.

5. Paramore - "Misery Business"

God, does it feel so good, cause I got him where I want him now! Save it for Emo Week, Gentle, and knock it out of the park.

4. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Gold Lion"

I would have liked to select "Soft Shock," one of the prettiest cuts off the YYY's forthcoming album It's Blitz. But "Gold Lion," while a little older, is probably a better song choice for Gentle. Mostly, I want to see him dressed up in an insane metallic, Karen O unitard. Notice! They already have very similar dance moves.

3. Avril Lavigne - "I Can Do Better"

Give Gentle the chance to get in touch with the angsty little pseudo-punk rocker somewhere inside of him. I know she's simply aching to get out.

2. Lykke Li - "Dance Dance Dance"

Oh, my. It would just be adorable.

1. Kelly Clarkson - "My Life Would Suck Without You"

Forget asking for Clive Davis' forgiveness. Sung by Normund, this becomes a triumphant, national love letter. And it's beautiful.
