Women Who Make Us Ask WTF?: Carnie Wilson

By Jennifer MathieuDespite not doing anything relevant with her career since being part of Wilson Phillips way back when I was still a virgin (we're talking waaaay back), this woman continues to show up in mainstream media every single time I turn my head. Whether it's appearing on a recent episode of Oprah or pimping herself out to girl porn tabloids, Carnie is still "famous" for one reason and one reason only. Sometime she's fat. Sometimes she's not.
I don't pretend to ignore the fact that I have lots of fun reading and writing about pop culture and all the C-list hangers on that come with that world. But it makes no sense to me whatsoever why Carnie Wilson is included in said universe. Is our obsession with one woman's weight struggle truly that interesting to us? Do we seriously not have anything better to do? Granted, I'm interested in all sorts of stupid, silly things (Is Robert Pattinson street legal? Who's the bitchiest on The View?), but I cannot for the life of me figure out why we should be hearing about this woman.
I'm sure she's nice and all, and I wish her well, but until she can do more than sit around and talk about her weight, I wish she would just go away.
For her inability to realize she needs a skill to go along with her celebrity, for her assumption that we all care how much she weighs, for all this and more, Carnie Wilson seriously makes us ask...WTF?
