Weddiquette: bringing your BFF as a "guest"

I turned 25, and suddenly all my friends are getting married while I'm sitting around perfecting my Sidecar recipe and fighting the patriarchy. Ladies of a certain age and temperament, from fictional Bridget Joneses to real-life every last single gal I know, occasionally dread what the mailbox might bring: a wedding invitation for you and a "guest." I mean, I'm flattered that they think I'm at least capable of attracting a "guest," but also kind of miffed, because "guest" means "date," doesn't it? I've thrown this question out there to the chattering world of Twitter and Facebook and gotten a variety of responses. I ask you, dear readers, If you "and guest" are invited to a wedding, does the "guest" necessarily have to be a person of potential romantic interest?
The assumption is, of course, yes. You bring dates to weddings, not friends. Even if I show up with a platonic guy friend, people are going to figure we're on a date. And if I show up with a girlfriend, advises a compadre of mine, "Just be ready to field questions about the nature of your relationship."
Methinks a revolution is in order: single folks, instead of searching out a warm body to accompany you for the evening, why not bring a good friend you're not interested in? That way, weddings can become fodder for new love connections, instead of couples parades. What think you, dear readers?

I absolutely agree. I hate the pressure of finding a date for weddings. And if you do have a significant other and they can't attend, are you just stuck flying solo? I say no!
Posted 01/06/2009 at 09:41:24 AMI've taken friends of both genders for many years to weddings, and always had more fun than when I aimed for a (unavoidably high-pressure) date scenario.
Plus, you can look like an idiot dancing in front/with a friend and not have to burn photographic evidence when you break up later. Not that I've done that.

Posted 05/02/2009 at 09:18:29 AMAccording to Bow Wow's 106 & Park interview, he and Ciara are history and I think who is ciara dating that she may have been the one to end things because he seemed a little bitter about it. I don't know who she is dating now. That photo of her on Nelly's bedside on that Over and Over Again video did cause me to think of the possibility of a relationship between Nelly & Ciara but it was after that that she went public with her relationship with Bow Wow. Yesterday on 106 & Park, Lil Fizz (formerly of B2K) hinted that he would be interested in dating Ciara. Rocsi was sure to call him out on that. Ciara is probably weighing her options and playing it cool right now. She may not be dating anyone.

Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped.
