Parents Television Council freaks out about new Britney single

The last time we remember the Parents Television Council making this much of a fuss, it was over the racy "OMFG" ads for Season 2 of Gossip Girl. The fall promos featured a sassy re-appropriation of the PTC's statement that the show was "mind-blowingly inappropriate." The council's director of communications said the twist "reeked of desperation." We actually found it quite amusing. Probably because we don't have children.

But since Gossip Girl has moved on to more virtuous plot points, like playing scheming tricks on a teacher that looks about ten years younger than you, or dating a guy you share a half-brother with who you believe is dead but isn't, the PTC has chosen to focus on to a new target as well: Britney Spears, whose maybe-memoir we told you about yesterday! Her latest single is called "If U Seek Amy," and the title sounds like a lewd phrase when slurred all quick-like within the lyric:

All of the boys and all of the girls wanna if you seek Amy.
Billboard reported that the PTC is asking that radio stations refrain from broadcasting the single between 6am and 10pm. But Tommy Chuck, program director for Tampa, Florida's WFLZ, just went ahead and produced his own edit of the track. He replaced "seek" with "see" and had a morning host shout out his own name whenever Brit coos "Amy." Underage ear-bleeding aside, Chuck seems to think the song itself is pretty good:

"I think Jive is creating their own edit, so I don't know if they'll use ours or not," he said. "But it's a no-brainer that we would play it, because the song is a hit and people are calling for it like crazy. It may be the best song on the CD."

Not so sure about that -- we're still digging "Womanizer" most, actually, though nothing drives the hit-machine like a promiscuous controversy and pissed off parentals. Jive is probably penning a thank-you letter to the PTC right now.
