10 Ways to Keep Warm This Winter

Baby, it's cold outside. Or, it probably is if you live somewhere other than Austin, TX, where it's going to be 70 degrees and sunny all week. Still, January means cold even if global warming is allowing us to hold pool parties in New Jersey until the dead of winter. And us heartless dolls are delicate flowers, are we not? Little shivering things that can barely weather the frigid air without withering helplessly! But be not afraid, dolls. I've found 10 wonderful ways to keep warm this winter.

10. Ina Garten's beef stew

Thick, delicious and bubbling hot, Ina Garten's beef stew is the perfect winter warming dish--that is, if you're not vegetarian. I've touted the glory of Garten before because there's really nothing like her particular brand of soulful, if not soul, food. This stew is nice and thick, which lines the tummy better than some sad can of Campbell's. Fresh herbs are the key ingredient, and don't be shy about adding them in. It's cold outside, you're not going anywhere, so you've got plenty of thyme.

9. Look hot, feel hot

All too often, the importance of having great looking outerwear goes ignored. We'll charge shoes and skirts 'till Visa is our new BFF, but throw on the same old boring black coat. Freezing weather is no excuse not to look fab, especially when we've got most excellent resources like, say, the gorgeous outerwear at ModCloth. Amber Road Coat, I pine for you.

8. Constantly remind yourself that Hot-bama is soon to be our president

I really don't think you can look at this too many times.

7. Drink this

Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee isn't exactly one of the Food Network's higher class shows--this woman loves a can opener--but her Hot Apple Cider Toddy is heaven in a mug. Butter!? In a whiskey drink!? Oh, yes.

6. Be kind to your extremities

There's nothing wrong with being a little extreme, but your extremities are another story. If you're trudging around in the kind of climate that requires mittens from October to April, a nice pair of magic hand warmers can do wonders. Even if keeping a pack of hot chemicals in your gloves freaks you out, try to remember that it's way better than frostbite, no?
