I've heard of LOLcats. I've heard of LOLspeak. I've even heard of
an entire LOLbible. But not until yesterday had I considered that bananas could laugh out loud, Internet-style. My roommates brought home the bunch of Chiquita bananas you see here from our local Trader Joe's. It took me until 11:00 at night to notice the blue "LOL" sticker, at which point I went prancing around our apartment giggling with irrational glee. Below the infamous abbreviation the clever PR guys at banana central have printed "at eatachiquita.com." So I went there. I know full well I'm playing into their advertising snare. And just like a good little online lemming, I don't care.

Unfortunately,
EataChiquita is not a collection of banana-themed LOL images, as I'd hoped. Instead, it's a Flash-heavy site that tries to educate you about the awesomeness of bananas with annoying, Napoleon Dynamite-style graphics and a lot of popping speech bubbles. Ah, the missed opportunity. For now though, I'm content with having a piece of fruit that
gets me -- that is, gets my Internet dorkiness. I'm just waiting for my apples to start saying "do want" and my oranges "kthnxbye!" I can haz five fruits and vegetables a day?
