Did you know Good Vibes sex toy reviewers can't keep their toys?

goodvibes.jpgOne of the perks of being a journalist is getting to review things -- video games, books, or in some cases even sex toys -- and then getting to keep them. Over at GoodVibes.com, the website for the female-friend sex store Good Vibrations, employees post reviews of their own for all the new toys that go on sale. That means vibrators, butt plugs, books, ropes, the works. Personally, I've always envied the men and women who get to test those items out, mostly because I always figured at the end of the day, after writing their catchy 200 words about "hit-the-spot curves" and what have you, they got to hold on to the expensive toys they'd already gotten to know, intimately.

Sadly -- and kind of astonishingly -- that's just not true. I met a woman the other day who used to work for Good Vibrations, answering their phones and reviewing their products. Instead of keeping the toys she tried out, she said she had to return them. What happened to them once they got back in the hands of the Good Vibes higher-ups was hard to say. Maybe they were sent back to the manufacturer. Maybe they were destroyed. Were they put out as display items? No way, she said. That would be gross. My definition of gross: wasting a perfectly good, $100+ sex toy that's already been all up on your body. Nobody else wants it now. Haven't toy companies ever heard of presents?

I guess I can stop envying the life of a sex toy reviewer, huh? Or maybe getting paid to test out vibrators is still too good to be true?

EEw...what DO they do with the toys after the folks send 'em back?? And how exactly do they return the toys? Are employees told to wash them off and mail them somewhere, or what?? (no seriously, anyone know?)

Seems like it'd be cheaper and less-biohazardous to let the testers keep em and take a tax writeoff or something there.

As a sex toy reviewer for a bunch of companies (Good Vibes not included), I've never had to return a toy that I've tested and reviewed. From what I've experienced and would assume, the toy is pretty much the barter for the review.

And no, getting paid to test vibes and other toys is definitely not too good to be true. It's an awesome job and I thank my lucky stars daily for being paid to jerk off. And watch porn all day... and get to talk to super hot porn people. Ok, I'll stop. But seriously, check out other sex toy sites (pppst... check our toy section for a few names) and see if you can become a reviewer. Plenty have review programs.

Good Luck!
