mccain.jpgTotal "Wha?" moment this morning while I was scrolling through my Google Alerts. "Obama: Women Should Register For Draft" glided into my inbox via InfoWars.com. O RLY? Obama thinks women should register for the draft? Tell me more, InfoWars.

Turns out, the article, from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, is actually headlined "Full gender equality still an issue for the military," but hey, you know, whatever gets people to come to your Web site. It worked for me, it'll work for you. And it's not entirely misleading. You can also choose from "Despite war, neither candidate wants to revive draft" in the Toledo Blade, which is the same Post-Gazette piece with a different headline. Or if you're looking for something completely different, hop over to Fox News, where "Candidates Diverge Over Whether to Extend Selective Service to Women." Or take the tack of WorldNetDaily, "Obama believes women should register for draft."

Bottom line: John McCain has said he won't make women a part of selective service, but Obama will.

I'm not even gonna pretend like that prospect doesn't terrify me, considering the current state of our blow-everybody-up world, but are we really gonna start bitching about this kind of hypothetical when we won't even get to fight a war (and I mean that as reluctantly as possible) if we don't have good leadership, anyway? Blah blah, you all know where I stand, blah blah.

Is excluding women from selective service sexist? Misogynistic? I'm not entirely sure it is. We've got a long way to go in women's equality before we start putting men and women in exactly the same roles. Readers with girl parts, will you be happily heading off to war if the call comes? Oh, god. I need a beer. At 10:00 a.m.

You know, I have to say. As a female, I don't much care either way. As a previously-male, I don't much care either way.

But as an egalitarian who supports being equal in all facets of life. I would completely and totally support females being in the selective service/draft, if it ever came down to it. Beyond that females take longer to have children. (Men, five minutes, Females, nine months and five minutes ^_^)

Experience has shown me, that, in fact, females are no better than males at raising children.

So, I support this maneuver.

The picture at the URL below echos my opinions on the matter nicely.
