best_b1.jpgWomen like technology, just like men! Women use computers and mp3 players and high-def televisions! And get this--women also have to buy these things! And nobody understands that better than Best Buy, who opened their first female-centric store today in Colorado.

The bright pink store, which features massages and facials in the the mp3 section, a shoe department to rival Neiman's and an increased inventory of washers and dryers, opened ...

J/K LOL!! The store asked 40 women to help them design a female-oriented store and, according to a Best Buy flak named Ginger Bucklin (in competition with Kitty Burns Florey for best news name of the week) the new Best Buy is "about serving women better."

I'm not sure I get it. Best Buy wasn't exactly a scary place to begin with. In fact, it's kind of fun. A giant playroom for grown-ups. In the new store, they renamed the home theater department the "family room," put a child-size sink in the bathroom and displayed laptops on dark wood cabinets. In short, they appear to have remodeled a store according to the specifications of 40 Colorado soccer moms ... which is, admittedly, exactly what they did. How this is going to translate into a model for the rest of America?

My own Best Buy would be a little different. Step one: Stella Artois on tap. Step two: ability to actually test out software in-store. Step three: THE KITTEN ZONE! Step four: perpetual 50% off sale on all albums receiving a rating of 8.0 or higher from Pitchfork.
